The AF works well with my 1.4X II Extender and is even usable for sports. One word of advice, tho. My 300 f/2.8 non-IS actually works better with the old 2X version 1 extender as opposed to the modern 2X III extender. This is a case where old is better than new for this particular lens. Found this out the hard way.
