Thecarbon Santa Cruz Chameleon C is offered as a frame only for $1,599, in S or S+ builds for $3,799, or SE/SE+ for $5,699. We’re testing the 29er SE build with custom blue Hope hubs and headset, Santa Cruz Reserve 27 carbon rims (the 27.5+ SE+ gets Reserve 37). The build kit offered on the high-end SE is pretty well dialed, especially the
Still Salsa is seeing consumers that are more interested in its 29er models over 27.5+. “In the Timberjack hardtail line, we’ve seen a consistent shift in momentum toward 29” wheels,” says Steiner. The Timberjack is an entry-level hardtail starting at $1,250 and available with either 27.5+ or 29-inch wheels. “In 2019 approximately 75
The$1,250 Fuse 27+ uses Specialized’s A1 frame while the 29-inch Fuse Comp and Expert use the higher-grade, lighter-weight M4 frame, which also happens to offer a sliding dropout for 15 millimeters of chainstay adjustment and the option to run a single-speed drivetrain. Though the previous-generation Fuse also had a carbon option in the
OurVerdict. The Santa Cruz Chameleon R 29 is a fun-loving hardtail that is also quite capable of racking up some miles. We've tested this bike with both 29-inch wheels and 27.5+ wheels. The wagon-wheeled iteration is a little more business-minded and delivers a fairly well-rounded ride without sacrificing too many of its playful values.
